Abstract

A fracture is a break in the continuity of bone tissue caused by trauma, resulting in decreased physical function. One of the surgical procedures that can be performed to treat fractures is open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF). Post-ORIF, one of the nursing problems that often arises is acute pain. Acute pain management can be done non-pharmacologically, one of which is by applying the Benson relaxation technique. Objective: To identify the effect of the Benson relaxation technique on reducing pain scales in post-ORIF patients in the RS XGeneral Hospital Yogyakarta. Methods: A case study was conducted on 3 post-ORIF patients in the Anggrek 1 Room, with the Benson relaxation technique intervention applied once a day for 3 consecutive days, each for 5-10 minutes. Results: The difference in pain scale reduction before and after intervention in the first subject was 1.66; the second subject experienced an increase in pain with a difference of -0.67; and the third subject experienced a decrease in pain of 1.34. Conclusion: There was a decrease in pain scales in two of the three subjects after the application of the Benson relaxation technique.
