Peer Review Proses
Teaching and Learning: Journal of Education (TLJE) applies a double-blind peer review system. Every manuscript submitted to FAWAID for publication undergoes a rigorous peer review process. Peer review in this journal is defined as the evaluation of submitted manuscripts by two or more experts who possess competencies comparable to those of the author(s). The purpose of this process is to determine the suitability of academic manuscripts for publication, maintain high quality standards, and ensure the credibility of published articles.
The peer review process in Teaching and Learning: Journal of Education (TLJE) consists of nine stages, conducted within a maximum period of three months, as outlined below:
1. Manuscript Submission
The corresponding author or submitting author submits the manuscript to the journal through the online submission system supported by the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
2. Initial Editorial Assessment
All submitted manuscripts are initially assessed by the editor to determine whether they fall within the journal’s focus and scope. The editor evaluates the structure and composition of the manuscript according to the journal’s Author Guidelines to ensure compliance with required sections and writing style. At this stage, a preliminary quality assessment is conducted, including the identification of major methodological flaws. Manuscripts that pass this stage are screened using Turnitin to detect plagiarism before being sent to reviewers.
3. Evaluation by the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief assesses whether the manuscript is suitable for the journal and evaluates its originality, relevance, interest, and scholarly significance. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without further peer review.
4. Reviewer Invitation
The handling editor invites reviewers (also known as referees) who are considered appropriate based on their expertise, relevance to the manuscript’s subject matter, and absence of conflicts of interest. The peer review process at FAWAID involves a narrowly defined community of qualified experts in education and teaching who are capable of providing impartial assessments. Objectivity is ensured through a double-blind review system, in which reviewers do not know the identity of the authors, and authors do not know the identity of the reviewers. Each manuscript is reviewed anonymously by two reviewers in the relevant field.
5. Response to the Invitation
Invited reviewers consider the invitation based on their expertise, availability, and any potential conflicts of interest, and then decide whether to accept or decline the invitation. In the invitation letter, the editor may request that reviewers suggest alternative reviewers if they are unable to participate.
6. Review Process
Reviewers read the manuscript carefully, often multiple times. The initial reading is intended to form a general impression of the work. If major issues are identified at this stage, reviewers may recommend rejection without further evaluation. Otherwise, reviewers conduct a detailed, point-by-point assessment and submit their reviews along with recommendations to accept, reject, or request revisions (categorized as major revision or minor revision) before reconsideration.
7. Evaluation of Review Reports
The Editor-in-Chief and the handling editor consider all reviewer reports before making a final decision. If the reviewers’ recommendations differ significantly, the handling editor may invite an additional reviewer to obtain further expert opinion.
8. Communication of the Decision
The editor communicates the editorial decision to the author via email, including anonymized reviewer comments. These comments are provided to guide the author in responding and revising the manuscript as necessary. Reviewers are also informed of the final decision regarding the manuscript.
9. Final Stage
If the manuscript is accepted, it proceeds to the copyediting stage. If the manuscript is rejected or returned for major or minor revisions, the handling editor provides constructive reviewer comments to assist the author in improving the manuscript. Authors are required to revise the manuscript according to the reviewers’ and editor’s recommendations and resubmit the revised version to the editor.
Revised manuscripts are normally returned to the original reviewers unless they have opted out of further review. However, manuscripts requiring only minor revisions may be assessed solely by the handling editor. If the editor determines that the manuscript has adequately addressed the recommended revisions, the manuscript is accepted. Accepted articles are published online and made freely available as downloadable PDF files.
